The Forgotten Women of SOE

You know, the ones authors can't stop writing about. Unfortunately the error-ridden article in today's Daily Express (perhaps reflecting the accuracy of the book it's plugging) is typical of the predictable, tired portrayals we're used to seeing of SOE's 'angelic' women. Along with the familiar tales of derring-do are the inevitable, grisly details of torture and execution, including Eliane Plewman having been 'endlessly tortured' with electric shocks between the eyes (this is based on a misreading of a letter written in French, which actually states that she had bright lights shone in her face during interrogation).
